Windows 11. The main part of this announcement should be the presentation of a significant user interface change, codenamed Sun Valley. As we know, a significant part of the UX changes will be inherited by the Windows 10X shell, and Windows 10X will not be released. Now, as expected, the Windows 11 leaks begin.
What’s new in Windows 11:
– Windows 11 will get a completely new design. Microsoft apparently needs a good reason to retract its previous claims and abandon Windows 10 by introducing a new operating system number. And the brand new design is great for that. The giant from Redmond has been preparing a redesign for an update with the code name Sun Valley (« Sun Valley ») for a long time – apparently Windows 11 was under this name. The Sun Valley project has been flashing on the network for a long time – Microsoft regularly gave details of the new interface style, insiders shared previously unknown information and popular designers in their circles drew realistic concepts based on all this data.
– Startup and system items will float above the bottom bar. Start is the business card and face of every current version of Windows. It’s no surprise that the developers will remake it again in Windows 11, although not so much in a functional sense as in a visual one – the Start window will float above the bottom bar. We have to admit that this small change makes the system look much fresher. According to information from the Internet, Microsoft will not radically change the « inside » of this menu – the innovations will only affect the design of the window itself. The control panel will also be floating and its design will be exactly the same as the « Startup » one. The action center is merged with the control keys – similar ones have long been used in some other operating systems. Almost all mentions of this new menu indicate that it will be an island – the control buttons will be on a separate bar, notifications on another, and certain items (like the player) on another separate bar.
– Right angles disappear and are replaced by curves. In truth, insiders and concept designers disagree on this point – some believe that Microsoft will not change its traditions and keep right angles, while others believe that Microsoft will follow the fillet fashion in 2021. The latter fits the definition of « all-new Windows » better – the floating menus alone aren’t enough to consider the new design truly new. The files are expected to affect virtually everything in the system, from context menus and system trays to all application windows. The opinions of concept designers also differ on this issue – some draw curves in all kinds of interface elements, others combine them with right angles.
– There will be a translucent background with blur everywhere. There is disagreement on the web about the island style of the display, the design of the corners and the floating effect of the menu, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of the windows. The vast majority of design leaks and renders show transparency and blur in all windows, whether it’s at least the Start menu or Explorer. Moreover, these effects are even included in the build of the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed in parallel with the Sun Valley project for devices with two screens and less powerful gadgets.
